We have a long tradition with our German offices in Cologne, Freiburg, Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Hamburg and Düsseldorf: Prof. Dr. Friedrich Graf von Westphalen founded the Cologne office back in 1973. The roots of the Freiburg office even go back to 1924, when the publishing lawyer Prof. Dr. Walter Bappert first opened his law firm in Staufen and then moved to the Dreisam in 1926. FGvW opened in Frankfurt am Main in 2014.

Since then, we have been present in the Rhine-Main metropolitan region and also offer our international clients a hub for their business throughout Europe. The Berlin office was added in 2020. Our presence in the capital offers us the opportunity to be closer to the federal authorities. Berlin is also the central point of contact in Germany for clients from the start-up scene as well as for private equity and venture capital investors. FGvW has also been anchored in the north of the country since 2024. From the heart of Hamburg, we advise SMEs in the Hanseatic city and the entire region. Since spring 2025, an office in Düsseldorf has complemented our strong presence in the Rhineland.
We also keep a close eye on developments at the European level: we have had an office at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels since 1991. FGvW has its own office in Alicante, the seat of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which deals with trademark law.
Our clients operate in all economic regions of the world, and we accompany them on their journey. To this end, we maintain a broad international network of law firms with whom we work closely. We know our partners through many years of professional cooperation, but often also through personal exchanges. This ensures that our clients receive the same service worldwide that they have come to expect from FGvW.
